4 Tips to Reduce Overwhelm

Feeling overwhelmed? Is your life chaotic? Is your to-do list getting longer and longer?

Whether you have four kids and a full-time job outside of the house, or are retired and taking on new projects, overwhelm is something we all struggle with from time to time (sometimes more than other times!)

Would you like to reduce overwhelm so you can feel more peace and less stress?

Overwhelm and stress really are things we can handle and there are quick and easy tools and tips that can help us do it. Here are four that can help you reduce overwhelm and stop it before it spirals out of control.

  1. Sunday Plan Day – Whether in the morning while you are making breakfast or drinking your coffee or at the end of the day, take 10 to 15 minutes to jot down everything that you need to do for the upcoming week. You need to get it out of your head to reduce overwhelm and get it onto paper. And keep the running list from week to week and add anything new that pops up (and delete what has been done)! Then look at the list and ask “What do I have to get done this week?” and then slot it into a calendar – I like Google Calendar because I can move things around and have it on my computer and phone, but a paper planner works too! The goal is to get it out of your head!
  2. 60-Second Retreat/Reset Breaks – In the morning before you get out of bed, when something pops up and you see the stress building, take a 60-Second break! Close your eyes, take a deep breath in and out, and repeat a mantra for 60-seconds, such as “Release” or “Let Go.” Then go back to what you were doing before.
  3. EFT or Tapping on Overwhelm – You can diffuse stress and overwhelm within minutes by using Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping). Talk about the overwhelm, about all you have to do, about the stress you feel, and about anything going on in that moment that is stressing you out. My friend and colleague Amy B. Scher has a great free video on EFT the Amy Way here!
  4. Call In in Higher Help – Call in your angels and guides when you are feeling overwhelm – whether you know specific help to call on our not. Asking for higher help to tame your chaos and overwhelm is one of the fastest and easiest ways to start to diffuse it.
